Ingredients:
- 6 cups stale bread, cut into cubes (such as French bread or brioche)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
- Butter or non-stick cooking spray, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- Place the stale bread cubes in the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- If using, stir in the raisins or dried cranberries.
- Pour the milk mixture over the bread cubes in the baking dish, making sure to soak all the bread evenly. Press down lightly on the bread to help it absorb the liquid.
- Let the bread pudding sit for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the bread to soak up the custard mixture.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread pudding is set and golden brown on top.
- Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm, optionally with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
This classic bread pudding is rich, creamy, and full of comforting flavors.
